A 21-year-old Groton man has been charged with rape, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office.
Brendan J. Farrell, of Sykes Street, broke into a Groton residence at about 10:47 a.m. Monday before committing the rape, the sheriff's office said. The victim knows the attacker, the sheriff's office said.
Farrell was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual act, both class B felonies, and second-degree burglary, a class C felony. He was arraigned in Groton Town Court, and later released from the Tompkins County jail on $50,000 bond. He is due back in court at 2 p.m. Friday.
