Glenn R. Larison, a Republican incumbent from Odessa, was the top vote-getter in balloting Tuesday for three seats to represent District III in the Schuyler County Legislature.
With all polling places reporting, the tally was Larison 1,008, Republican Barbara J. Halpin of Odessa 985, and Republican incumbent Doris L. Karius 925. Democrat Clifford D. Yaw received 756 votes.
District III covers Cayuta, Catharine and Hector. The term of office is four years.
All results do not include absentee ballots.
All candidates in countywide balloting were unopposed. They were District Attorney Joseph G. Fazzary, Sheriff William E. Yessman Jr., County Clerk Linda M. Compton and Coroner James P. Coleman III.
On Tuesday, the town of Hector polling place at the Burdett fire hall had an electronic machine fail soon after voting opened at 6 a.m. Voters continued to fill out their paper ballots, which had to be counted by hand after closing at 9 p.m.
An official with the Schuyler County Board of Elections said the state Board of Elections would not allow Schuyler technicians to try to repair the machine. The official also said the office heard reports of upward of 20 machines failing across the state.
Also, results from one of Schuyler's polling places appeared to be reversed among candidate lines, and Board of Elections officials said this apparent error would be investigated.
