H.S. Volleyball Preview Capsule

Matchup: 2-Tioga (14-5) vs. 1-Lansing (14-1) at Horseheads Middle School main gym, 6 p.m.

Outlook: A rematch from last Saturday's Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship, won by Tioga in a five-game thriller. The Tigers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take the final three games by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18 to hand Lansing its first loss.

Then, in Thursday's round-robin play, the Tigers and Bobcats split a pair of games. Tioga finished round-robin play with a 5-1 record, while Lansing was 4-2. The Bobcats are a balanced team, with Taylor Bandler often setting the table and Tory Cutting, Amber Howser, Bree Brand and Tara Miller cashing in.

The champion will play the winner of a Section 1 vs. Section 9 match at a site and time in Section 4 to be determined next weekend.

Section 4 Class D Championship

Matchup: 2-Thomas A. Edison (13-3) vs. 1-Candor (17-1) at Horseheads Middle School field house, 5 p.m.

Outlook: Candor won the IAC small school championship and swept the regular-season series with Edison, but dropped a pair of games to the Spartans in round-robin play Thursday.

However, the Indians bounced back by beating Southern Cayuga and Newfield to clinch a berth in the championship. Candor will continue to rely on senior middle hitter Kylie Gates, a first-team all-state pick last year, and setter Kristen Wildenstein. Jessica Goodsell and Kelsey Wertman are also key cogs for coach Pam Quinlan.
