Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton, D/WF-125th Dist., is recommending a full review and revision of the state Department of Environmental Conservation regulations on oil and gas drilling in New York State.
In her written testimony sent Monday to the environmental conservation department, Lifton said she has concluded that New York's original 1992 impact statement on gas drilling is fatally flawed and urged the state to do a complete review on gas drilling before proceeding with new regulations. Those new rules would apply to permits issued for exploring the gas-rich Marcellus shale formation that runs under parts of central New York, including Lifton's district in Cortland and Tompkins counties.
