DRYDEN -- The Tompkins Cortland Community College men's basketball team clinched the top seed in the upcoming Mid-State Athletic Conference playoffs with an 88-77 victory over Broome Community College on Saturday.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 16-4 on the season and 9-1 in the conference. Broome, the conference's second-place team, dropped to 14-8 and 6-3.
Spencer native Michael Martin pitched in a double-double in the win, scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Newfield's Josh Delfino added 20 points and nine rebounds, and Chris Cartwright led the Panthers with 25 points.
Matt Mullins scored 23 points for Broome.
Women's basketball
* Tompkins Cortland CC 67, Broome CC 47: Broome suffered through a miserable shooting day, missing 55 of its 67 shot attempts from the field.
The Panthers (11-9, 6-4) moved into third place in the MSAC with the victory. They made 21 of 22 free throws and received 24 points, four assists and three steals from Michelle Tuetken.
Ithaca High graduates Julie Schaeffer and Katie Currier combined for 23 of the Panthers' 59 rebounds.
